The HIV epidemic is usually heightened by the transmission of the virus among populations with high-risk behavior. Men as a target population are as a result of a number of factors that put them at risk which include; most men are reported to have poor health seeking behaviors and are thus at high risk of infections and of transmitting the same unknowingly; a number of men are engaged in occupations that put them at risk due to high cash flow that they have and demand from female partners.
Some of the activities that we reach men with include sensitization sessions and support groups which target groups between 20 to 30 men with information on HIV, reproductive health and GBV.
During this period, a total of 9 activities were conducted at various locations which include; Nyadorera sand harvesters, Hawinga Centre, Ngiya Centre, boda boda riders (also known as transport officers) at Mbaga, KMTC, Bondo junction and Umala boda boda stages. during the activities, a total of 209 men were reached while 44 received HIV testing services.
These interventions are very key as men are coming up openly to accept uptake of services and health education also including referrals for VMMC.
