From a grassroots movement in Siaya Town to a nationally recognized NGO — this is the story of how a small team of dedicated youth changed health outcomes for thousands of Kenyans.
In 2005, a group of young health advocates in Siaya, Kenya — alarmed by the devastating HIV/AIDS epidemic sweeping through their community — decided to act. They didn't wait for government or institutions. They organized. They mobilized. They went door to door.
That small group became the Global Communications Institute — GLOBCOM. A youth-led organization rooted in the belief that communities hold the power to heal themselves when given the right knowledge, tools, and support.
"We started with nothing but determination and a vision of a healthy Siaya. Eighteen years later, that vision is still driving us forward."
From day one, GLOBCOM has been guided by three core pillars that define everything we do.
Every GLOBCOM program begins and ends with the community. We listen, co-design, and ensure our work responds to real, expressed needs — not outside assumptions.
We believe in doing what works. All programs are grounded in public health evidence, monitored rigorously, and continuously improved through data-driven learning.
No organization transforms communities alone. GLOBCOM works with county government, international partners, faith institutions, and community leaders to multiply our impact.
A growing trail of impact, partnerships, and community transformation since 2005.
A group of youth health advocates formally register the Global Communications Institute in Siaya, Kenya, launching a community HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention program.
GLOBCOM launches its first Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) support program, providing educational assistance, psychosocial support, and family strengthening services to 120 families.
The GLOBCOM Sports League for HIV Prevention is launched — using football, netball, and performing arts to engage youth in behavior change communication across Siaya County.
GLOBCOM begins partnering with Siaya County government and the Ministry of Health on community health volunteer training, supply chain support, and health information systems strengthening.
In partnership with the Fred Hollows Foundation, GLOBCOM launches a cataract screening and eye surgery project in Kisumu County — restoring sight to hundreds of Kenyans with cataracts.
GLOBCOM expands operations to Kisumu, Kilifi, and Nairobi counties, receiving formal recognition from the Kenya NGO Coordination Board and strengthening institutional governance systems.
GLOBCOM integrates digital health tools into community programs — including mobile data collection, community health worker apps, and digital HIV status sharing platforms — expanding reach and efficiency.
By 2030, GLOBCOM aims to be a leading national NGO with programs reaching 100,000+ individuals annually across at least 10 counties — championing community health, youth empowerment, and health equity for all Kenyans.
We are building the infrastructure, partnerships, and evidence base to scale our most effective programs and respond to emerging health challenges including mental health, climate-health linkages, and digital health literacy.
Volunteer, partner, or support us — every contribution helps write a healthier future for Kenya.
