Restoring sight across Siaya County
Cataract is the leading cause of avoidable blindness, yet it is treatable through surgery. Since June 2019, GLOBCOM has implemented the Integrated Cataract Project to bring quality eye care to underserved communities.
This program ensures high-quality integrated eye health services are available in Siaya County, with effective cataract treatment accessible through equitable increase, availability, and accessibility of services.
GLOBCOM conducts outreach programs to screen and treat various eye conditions. Clients identified with cataract are offered surgery. As a result, eye health–seeking behavior has strengthened, and outreach has extended coverage to underserved populations including women, older persons, and people with disabilities.
Effective integration of eye care into community and primary health systems, fostering greater awareness.
Comprehensive eye health services through fixed facilities and outreach, extending coverage to underserved groups.
Institutionalised within county health management teams and hospitals — improving patient outcomes and uptake.
Strengthened governance ensures sustained improvements, advancing access for women, older persons, and PWDs.
